General Info

Located at 456 Main St, Winnipeg, MB R3B 1E4, Canada, Commonwealth Kitchen & Bar is a restaurant that leaves a strong impression from the moment you step inside. During my visit, what stood out most was the balance between a welcoming atmosphere and a menu that feels thoughtfully curated. It is the kind of place where guests can settle in comfortably, whether they are meeting friends, enjoying a casual evening out, or exploring one of Winnipeg’s notable dining locations.

One of the first dishes I tried was the Truffle Fries, and they immediately set the tone for the meal. Crispy, flavorful, and satisfying, they worked perfectly as a starter. The Mushroom Flatbread followed and offered a rich combination of textures and earthy flavors that felt both comforting and refined. These dishes showcased the kitchen’s attention to detail while remaining approachable for a wide range of diners.

As I explored more of the menu, the Oxtail Tagliatelle became a clear highlight. The dish delivered deep, slow-cooked flavors and a hearty character that made it memorable. Equally impressive were the Pork Belly Sliders, which combined tenderness and richness in every bite. For seafood lovers, the Motoyaki Oysters added another layer of variety, bringing a distinctive taste that complemented the rest of the dining experience. Together, these signature items demonstrate why many restaurant reviews frequently praise the diversity and quality of the offerings.

Beyond the food, Commonwealth Kitchen & Bar provides amenities that make a visit convenient and enjoyable. Guests have access to a wheelchair accessible restroom, helping create a comfortable environment for a broader range of visitors. Free street parking and additional parking options nearby also make arrival simple, especially in a busy downtown setting.

The beverage selection deserves attention as well. A carefully chosen range of cocktails and wine pairs naturally with the menu, giving guests plenty of options to enhance their meal. Whether enjoying a relaxed dinner or an evening gathering, the drinks menu complements the food without overshadowing it.

What makes Commonwealth Kitchen & Bar particularly appealing is how all the elements come together. The inviting atmosphere, thoughtfully prepared dishes, convenient services, and well-rounded menu create an experience that feels polished yet approachable. It is a restaurant that delivers consistency and gives diners plenty of reasons to return and explore more of what the kitchen has to offer.

“ We went for dinner at Commonwealth last night. There were 6 of us and we ordered 13 plates, which was probably one plate too many but we really wanted the truffle fries. We ordered 4 vegetarian dishes and 4 meat dishes: truffle fries (x1), Brussel Caesar (x2), mushroom truffle flatbread (x2), beet salad (x2), Mediterranean skewer trio (x2), pulled brisket sliders (x1), pork belly sliders (x1), and the oxtail tagliatelle (x2). My favourite meat dish was the oxtail tagliatelle. The sauce on the Jamaican oxtail was delicious. I had a difficult time choosing a favourite vegetable dish. I loved both the truffle fries and the mushroom truffle flat bread but the Brussel sprouts were so good! Every dish was an adventure and a delight. The service was friendly, attentive and courteous. They had big screens behind the bar so we could watch the Bombers beat the Rough Riders to advance to the Grey Cup. This restaurant opened in April and it was so much fun, I would come back again to try more dishes. ”

“ Ive always wanted to come to this place after seeing it online. I was super excited when we finally got the chance to go. We ordered the brussel sprouts salad, mushrooms flat bread, common burger and fries and the steak and potatoes. The potatoes and the burger were 100/10!! The salad was good also, croutons would have been nice, if they were taking a spin off the Ceasar salad. The flat bread was also good. I was really looking forward to the steak and was very disappointed it was cooked nicely and looked great, but the amount of steak spice used was very overwhelming. It was extremely extremely salty. I had a few bites and I just couldn't eat it. The server came and I told her, she was apologetic, but didnt offer to discount the bill. I'm not sure if it was discounted at the end because I went to the washroom while my partner paid the bill. Other than that, everything else was on point! ”

“ Commonwealth Kitchen has an amazing vibe - love the old Winnipeg building with its marble walls and tall ceilings. The food was fantastic! The oxtail dish (even though slightly over salted) was still delicious, and the pork belly sliders were absolutely divine, packed with flavor. Everything else we tried was great too. Service was okay too, overall, this place is definitely worth coming back to! ”
